My iPhone Charges But It Won’t Turn On

Posted on: 01/02/2023

Your phone is likely your lifeline to news, your friends, family, and even work. When you attempt to use your phone, you expect it to work and function the way it should. But, what if it does not? This can put a damper on your whole day. One problem that is often seen is that an iPhone is fully charged but it will not turn on. This problem is frustrating and rightfully so.

Below, we will discuss some of the reasons why your iPhone won’t turn on even though you are sure it is fully charged.

Dead Battery

If you are confident your iPhone is charged, then this likely does not apply to you. When a phone battery has been dead for a little while, it may take time for the device to turn on, even when it is connected to the charger. This is because the phone needs to build up enough energy to go through to boot cycle. Allow your phone to charge for about 30 minutes and try to turn it on again.

Power Button Is Bad

A bad power button could be the reason why the phone is not turning on. To test this, plug your device into another power supply and see if it will turn on. If it does, then the culprit is the power button or the cable to the power button.

Bad Logic Board

A faulty logic board may be the reason why your phone is not turning on, especially if other issues are not the problem and the phone has been charged. A bad logic board may be able to be repaired but will likely need to be replaced to restore function of the phone.

Restart Is Needed

A force restart is sometimes all that is needed to jumpstart the phone to work again. If an update is required for the iOS or an app is running and malfunctioning, it can cause issues with the device itself. To test and see if this is the problem, you will want to force restart your phone. If the phone turns on, then it was just frozen or stuck but if it does not, then you will need to look further into the problem.

Bad Charging Port or Battery

If your iPhone is still not turning on, it is possible that you have either a bad battery or a bad charging port. Either one of these will cause the phone to not turn on, even though you think it has been charged. You should replace the battery and see if that fixes the problem. If it does not, take a peek inside the charging port to see if there is any debris or broken pins. If so, you may need to have the charger port replaced.

Display Is Bad

If nothing is appearing on your screen, you may think the phone is off but in all actuality, it could just be the case of a bad display. The easiest way to test this is to listen and see if you hear sound. If you do, this means the phone is on and the display is bad.
